Meet Coach Traversi


Melissa “Missy” Traversi was tabbed the 11th head coach of the Adelphi University Women’s Basketball Program in the spring of 2016. In just her first season at the helm, Coach Traversi led the Panthers to the program’s second Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference Championship as well as the NE-10 Southwest Division regular season champs. Ranked #1 in the East Region the Panthers hosted the NCAA DII East Region Tournament. The Panthers advanced to the second round of the tournament and finished with an overall record of 27-5 (18-1 at home), and a #8 national ranking by the WBCA.

Coach Traversi arrived in Garden City after spending two seasons as the head coach at Division III Wheelock College in Boston. In her two years there, she led a program turnaround, posting the most wins in school history in 2014-15 before shattering that mark with an 18-7 record in 2015-16. The team finished second in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and led the league in three-point shooting. Coach Traversi guided two players to All-Conference honors. The team also earned the NECC Team Sportsmanship Award and the 2015 Presidential Academic Cup, given to the team with the highest GPA on campus.

Coach Traversi spent two years as the head coach at Dover-Sherborn High School (2008-10) where she was the Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year in the 2008-09 season. She spent one season as an assistant coach for the Harvard Crimson (2010-11) where she provided support in all aspects of recruiting, scouting reports and skill development. As the head coach at Attleboro High School (2011-14) she was a two-time Sun Chronicle Coach of the Year.

Coach Traversi played professionally in Sweden, where she averaged 23.5 points per game for Brahe Basket and also as a player and assistant coach for Jamtland Basket in. She was also an invitee to the WNBA’s Chicago Sky training camp.

Coach Traversi earned an Division I athletic scholarship to the University of Maine and had a standout collegiate career under Coach Sharon Versyp. A 1,000-point scorer she led her team to an NCAA tournament appearance, two Womens National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) appearances and three regular season America East titles. Traversi was also garnered First Team All-Conference as a senior captain for the Black Bears.

In 2006, Coach Traversi founded MT Elite Basketball Training where she managed and recruited players for the MT Elite AAU Basketball program and operated summer basketball camps throughout Massachusetts. The MT Elite AAU Basketball program became a powerhouse in the AAU circuit and consisted of 12 teams and coaches and over 300 athletes.

A graduate of Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, MA, Coach Traversi is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with a minor in Public Relations. She also earned a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.
